Lens Sharpness Test

Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6

Sharpness at 10mm.

10mm is the largest focal length of Sigma 10-20 F4-F5.6 lens and very likely its the focal length we would use most.

At F4 which is the widest aperture at 10mm, vignetting is pretty heavy. It exists in the entire photo (including center) but obviously its heavier in the corners. Sharpness is not impressive at F4 either, even not in the center. I believe F4 is not a aperture you'd like to use with this lens unless you are desperate.

When we stop down to F5.6, vignetting gets better but it is still obvious in the corners. Sharpness is also better in comparison to F4, however corners are still pretty weak at F4.

At F8 everything improves. But surprisingly F8 is still not as good as F11! This is actually why I made all comparisons against F11 instead of F8. F8 is pretty close to F11 but F11 is still better especially regarding corner sharpness. So I think we are safe to say that F11 is sweet spot of this lens at 10mm. You can still shoot at F8 and you'll like the outcome but if light is allowing you, you'd better stop to F11 for better corner sharpness performance.

F16 is also very close to F11 in every respect but F11 is still very slightly better.             [Review by Sinan Ozturk]
